It's always fascinating to get the tone of a book from the actual author since all reading is subject to the reader's interpretation. Anne Rice herself is a bit macabre and mysterious, and so the ebb and flow of her reading her own words produced quite a fantastic & ghoulish effect, that I would probably have not gotten otherwise if I had just read the passage on my own.<br /><br />And I agree with the concept of accepting that sometimes we just write plain shit.
